bubble gumInteractive Object Lesson

WHAT YOU’LL LEARN: It is hard to forgive others when they pop your bubble, but the Holy Spirit will help you.

WHAT YOU NEED: 4 pieces of bubble gum

INSTRUCTIONS:

  • Select two 5th Graders as Contestants (one boy and one girl).
  • Give each Contestant 2 pieces of bubble gum.
  • Ask them to chew the bubble gum and then whoever blows the biggest bubble will win.
  • While the contest is going on ask one of your helpers to sneak up and pop the boy’s bubble (with their finger). (You will want to communicate this ahead of time.)
  • (You may want to tell the 5th Grade boy ahead of time too.)
  • Once the boy’s bubble is popped, immediately declare the girl the winner. Be ready for some verbal abuse like, “No fair!”, “You Cheated!” etc.

    SPIRITUAL APPLICATION:

I know that Joe popped Tommy’s bubble, but that is just part of the game. Sometimes in life people will pop your bubble. Sometimes good friends will say things that they shouldn’t. Boys, do you think that you can forgive Joe for popping Tommy’s bubble? I know it is hard to do. Tommy lost the contest because of what Joe did. But we still need to forgive him and forget the past. We can’t let a popped bubble slow us down in our walk with God. Here is what happens if we don’t forgive Joe. Our prayers will be hindered (Mark 11:24). Also, God can’t forgive our sins if we don’t forgive the people that have sinned against us. Is that worth it? For a popped bubble? I don’t think so. We need to forgive Joe, forget the past and get on with our life. I know it is hard to forgive. Sometimes it seems impossible. But the good news is that the Holy Spirit will help you. You don’t have to do it by yourself.

Now is a good time to have the kids bow their heads and give an altar call for anyone that is holding unforgiveness in their heart.
