tugofwarInteractive Object Lesson

Scripture Reference: Proverbs 27:17, “As iron sharpens iron, so a friend sharpens a friend..” (NLT)

What you ’ll learn: Serving one another makes you stronger

What You Need: 1 large rope for Tug-Of-War, Masking tape

Prep Work: Tape down center line with masking tape

Instructions:

  • 1 adult volunteer against kids
  • Start out with all adult workers and 1 kid
  • Then keep adding a couple of kids at a time
  • Eventually the numbers of kids overpower the adults

Goal: At the end it is clear that many kids working together can overpower the adults, even though the adults are bigger.

Spiritual Application :

It was quite interesting to watch. When it was only 1 adult and 1 kid, the adult could win hands down. But as we kept adding, and the kids grew in number they also grew stronger. This reminds me of what can happen when you get hooked up at church. You begin to develop friendships with people that believe like you do. When that happens, you become strengthened and you actually grow more. The Bible tells us that “As iron sharpens iron, so a friend sharpens a friend..” When you hang with people and work with people that believe like you, you make each other sharp. You push each other higher and if you start to go the other way, they can sway you back. You can become stronger when you connect with other Christian kids at church.
