The Supernatural Gift of Tongues

Kids often get filled with the Holy Spirit at a special meeting or Kids Camp and never pray in tongues again. That’s not good. Why ask God for a gift and then only use it one time?

The Lord gave us the gift of tongues for a reason. Praying in tongues is a powerful supernatural gift that we should use daily.

It’s a good idea to follow your teaching on the Baptism of the Holy Spirit with a teaching about the benefits of praying in other tongues. This way, they will understand what happens when they pray in tongues.

Here’s the deal: If kids do not understand the benefits of praying in tongues, it opens the door for the enemy to steal their gift. He will say things like, “You didn’t really receive” or “You are just making it up.”

In Matthew 13:19, Jesus said that the evil one comes immediately to steal the Word.

Jesus told us that Satan would try to come immediately to steal the Word. He doesn’t like it when people pray in the Spirit because when you pray in tongues, you are praying supernatural prayers. This is why we must teach our kids about the benefits of praying in tongues.

Parents, here are valuable tips that you can do at home to help your kids use this spiritual gift.

  1. Be bold about praying in tongues at home. Please don’t shy away from it. If you are embarrassed to pray in tongues, your kids will be.
  2. Pray in tongues with your kids for five minutes every day during your regular nightly prayer time. Like the Apostle Paul, pray in the Spirit and with your understanding.
  3. When you encounter a messy situation and don’t know how to pray, remind your kids that this is what the gift of tongues is for, to help us to pray when we don’t know how to pray. Then lead them in praying in tongues.
  4. “And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words.” Romans 8:26
  5. Celebrate the gift of tongues. Whenever you get an answer to something you prayed for, remind your kids of when you prayed for that situation. This will let them know that praying in tongues is a supernatural gift.

Also, I have written a 12-week curriculum on the Holy Spirit. It’s a great way to introduce your kids to the ministry of the Holy Spirit.
