Learn To Be Different

I WANT YOU to take a moment and think about your favorite cookie.  Mine is chocolate chip.

Now, think about a time when you or your mom, wife or girlfriend, baked a batch of chocolate chip cookies.

What did you do?  You gathered all the ingredients and then put them into the oven and as they were baking, you began to smell the chocolatey goodness that only comes from fresh-baked, chocolate chip cookies.

What did you want to do as soon as they came out of the oven?

Eat them, of course.

In fact, you probably had a large glass of cold, milk waiting.

It’s interesting, that if you think about and talk about something you want to eat long enough, especially when you can smell how good it is, you end up eating it.

That’s how your brain works.

Good or bad, whatever you continue to think about, you will end up doing!

It is important that we learn to be different than others.

Most people let every, and any thought float into their head.

They do nothing to stop them.

And then when they end up in a divorce because of unguarded thoughts they wonder how they got into the mess they are in.

  • You can be different by making the decision to choose your own thoughts.
  • You can be different by not being like everyone else.
  • You can be different by thinking for yourself.

All around us are other people’s thoughts pushing their way into your head through music, social media, movies, TV, radio and countless other ways.

The great thing is that you can choose what to listen to.

You can choose what thoughts to keep.

No one else can control your thoughts.

You can learn to kick those bad thoughts out and put good thoughts in.

If you don’t like your life, if you want to make a change, then you start by changing how you think.

Kick out those bad thoughts and put in good thoughts.

When I first got saved I realized that most of my thinking was negative.

I had a lot of stinking thinking.

I had to kick out my bad thoughts and put in good thoughts.

You transform your mind with the Word of God.

It’s impossible to have an empty mind.

Your mind needs thoughts, like your lungs need air.

You can’t just kick out bad thoughts though, you have to put good thoughts in.

How do you know what’s good? How do you know what you should think about? Fill your mind with God’s Word.

You may be in a situation that you don’t know how to get out of.  Your thoughts keep mounting and telling you, “There is no hope for you.  You can’t get out of this situation.”  If you go to God’s Word it says this, “I trust in the Lord with all my heart and I lean not unto my understanding.  In all of my ways I acknowledge Him and He directs my path,”  Proverbs 3:5 and 6.

You may be in a financial situation where you aren’t sure how to make ends meet.  God’s Word says this, “There is no lack for my God supplies all of my need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus,” Philippians 4:19.

So, we can learn to be different by not allowing wrong or bad thoughts to take root in our mind.  Turn to God’s Word to change your thoughts.  When you do, you will find your situation will change too.

P.S. Isn’t this a great reminder? I’ve actually made an entire 12-week series called “Grow Up” that has lessons on this very subject! You can check it out here: SC 2.0 Grow Up

P.P.S If you think Grow Up 2.0 is cool you’ll love the preschool lessons that go with Grow Up 2.0. You can check them out here: KC 2.0 Grow, KC 2.0 Listen, KC 2.0 Change
