We cannot stay silent!

What do you think?

What will be the percentage of Generation Alpha that identifies as LGBTQ+?

Nobody knows what that number will be, but I know for sure that if the church continues to stay silent, that number will only increase.

It’s no secret that the culture is targeting our children. Our kids are surrounded by the messaging of the LGBTQ+  culture, from animated movies on Disney and coloring books at the local Target to teachers in their elementary school.

Those of us who teach kids in church cannot stay silent. We have a calling to kids to teach the truth. Kids today need our guidance.

Many of us grew up with the idea that there are certain things you don’t talk to kids about. How do you talk to Christian kids about something as sensitive as gender identity?

The first thing I did was to teach my kids that they are created in God’s Image.

This is one lesson that I taught:

He Is the Potter, and We Are the Clay

Props: Two different pieces of pottery, like a bowl and a plate

“And yet, O LORD, you are our Father. We are the clay, and you are the potter. We all are formed by your hand.” Isaiah 64:8 NLT

To The Kids:

We are the only creatures on the planet created in God’s image. We are like God. We were created to walk and talk with God. We are here because Father God wanted kids.

I am God’s idea. He created me. I did not choose to be created. God chose me, and He created me for a purpose.

(Hold up the piece of pottery.)

The scripture says that God is the potter, and we are the clay. Someone created this bowl out of clay. This bowl was created for a specific purpose to hold liquid foods like soup.

Does the bowl get to decide what it wants to be? No, the creator makes that decision.

What about us? Can we tell God who we want to be? No, God is the creator. We are God’s idea; He made us for a specific purpose.

The scripture says that God created males and females. God created boys and girls.

Is there a third option?

You might hear somebody say there are many different genders, but the Bible doesn’t say that.  God created males and females. I don’t get to choose my gender. God is the potter, and I am the clay.

(Hold up the bowl again.)

What if the bowl decided it wanted to be a plate?

(Hold up the plate.)

Can the bowl decide what it wants to be? No, the creator made that decision. The bowl was created for a specific purpose.

You are created in God’s image for a specific purpose, which is amazing.

  • Don’t allow anyone else to mold you into their image for you.
  • Don’t let somebody else tell you who you are.

Look to God. He is the one that decides who you are because you are created in His image.

If you are a girl, God made you a girl, which is amazing!

If you are a boy, God made you a boy, which is awesome!

Some good news.

I have had so many requests from churches and parents about how to talk about gender identity that we created a four-week curriculum called, “Who Am I?”

Here are the lesson titles:

  1. I Am Created in God’s Image
  2. I Am a Christian
  3. I Am a Boy. I Am a Girl
  4. I Am Part of a Family
