What Is God Doing In Minneapolis?

I’m not going to lie.

Yesterday was a scary day for anyone who lives in the Twin Cities.

A spirit of fear tried to get to me as events unfolded in Minneapolis. When I heard the rhetoric that followed the shooting and watched videos of lawlessness on the streets, I thought, “Here we go again.

In my mind, I saw images of angry people coming from across the country and burning Minneapolis like they did in 2020.

Minneapolis has been my home for over 30 years. It was a great place to raise my family. I don’t really like the winters, but I love my city. However, the city has changed lately. There is a lot of hate and anger that didn’t used to be here. It’s clear that the enemy has a plan – he wants to destroy Minneapolis.

I asked myself, “Why is the devil so focused on Minneapolis?” Then it hit me. “God has a plan for Minneapolis, and the enemy is threatened by that.” Think about it, the devil only attacks things that are a threat to him.

The good news is that God’s plan is greater than the devil’s plan. The scripture says, “Greater is He that is in you than he that is in the world.”

Church, we need to rise up and let our voice be heard.

So, what can we do?

  • We can pray.
  • We can preach the Gospel with boldness.
  • We can choose to speak positive words over our city.
  • We can choose to have a positive image of Minneapolis.

Yesterday, in my mind, the enemy kept giving me this image of Minneapolis burning. Today, I reject that image. I am replacing it with an image of the churches of Minneapolis on fire for God.

For those who don’t think that this can happen in Minneapolis, let me remind you of what the scriptures say,

“The disciples went everywhere and preached, and the Lord worked through them, confirming what they said by many miraculous signs.”

Church we cannot just sit back and watch our cities be destroyed. We must rise and let our voice be louder than the voices of hate, anger, and violence. The words that we speak over our city have power.

When the Apostle Paul found himself in a scary situation in the city of Corinth, the Lord said to him, “Do not be afraid! Speak out! Do not be silent, for I am with you and no one will attack and harm you, for many in this city belong to Me.

It’s not just Corinth. Many people in Minneapolis belong to Jesus.

Here is my prayer for Minneapolis:

“Father, I pray this morning for peace in Minneapolis. I pray for our leaders, for President Trump, Governor Walz, and Mayor Frey. I pray that you give them positive words to speak over our city. Words that create peace and safety. I pray that you surround them with wise counsel and that they make wise decisions.

We reject the enemy’s plan for Minneapolis. Devil, we resist you, and you must flee. We see the churches in Minneapolis on Fire for God. We see bold preaching followed by signs, wonders, healings, and miracles. We choose to walk in love and kindness with our neighbors. Help us make our voices louder than the voices of hate and anger.

We know that your plan for Minneapolis is greater than the enemy’s plan. We pray that your plan will be fulfilled in Minneapolis.”

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
